The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suspended its senior leader and former IPS officer and MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh from the party for five years, citing anti-party activities. The decision was taken by the party’s top decision-making body, the Political Affairs Committee (PAC), sending a strong signal that AAP will not tolerate any political interference in its fight against drugs.
The move comes days after Kunwar Vijay Pratap publicly raised questions over the Vigilance Department’s recent action against senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia. His remarks were seen as a challenge to the government’s stand on drug-related cases, triggering sharp reactions within the party.
Reacting firmly, the AAP leadership stated that the party’s campaign against drugs is non-negotiable and forms the core of its ideology. “Those who try to obstruct or politicize this mission have no place in the party,” a senior PAC member said.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap, a former DGP-rank officer and the face of the SIT in the 2015 sacrilege cases before joining politics, had been seen as a strong voice within the Punjab unit. However, his recent statements were deemed to be in conflict with the party line.
The Mann government’s tough stand is being viewed as a message that it will not allow political narratives to overshadow legal action in high-profile drug cases.
