Punjab Health Minister Visits Moga Hospital After Targeted Attack on Actress Tania’s Father; Vows Swift Justice

Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh on Saturday visited the Super Specialty Hospital in Moga to meet the family of Dr. Anil Kamboj, father of popular Punjabi film actress Tania, who was critically injured in a targeted shooting incident two days ago.

Dr. Kamboj remains in serious condition and is under intensive treatment.Calling the attack “deeply unfortunate and inhuman,” the minister assured that those behind the crime would not be spared, regardless of where they hide. “The Punjab government is fully committed to law and order. The attackers will face exemplary punishment,” Dr. Singh said during his visit.

The shocking incident took place on July 4, when two armed assailants, posing as patients, entered Dr. Kamboj’s clinic in Moga and opened fire at him at close range. The brutal act was captured on the clinic’s CCTV cameras. Dr. Kamboj sustained multiple bullet injuries and has been under critical care since.

Punjab Police have launched an intensive investigation, probing potential gangster links, including the possibility of involvement by members of gangs associated with Lakhbir Landa, who has previously issued threats to doctors and public figures in the state. Several individuals are currently being questioned, and digital forensic evidence is being analysed to trace the attackers and uncover the broader conspiracy.

Dr. Balbir Singh said the state government is providing the best possible medical care to Dr. Kamboj. He added that he had consulted Dr. Bishav Mohan, a renowned cardiologist from DMCH Ludhiana, via video call to seek expert advice. A team of specialists from DMCH Ludhiana is expected to join the ongoing treatment soon.

The minister also confirmed that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann are receiving regular updates on Dr. Kamboj’s condition and have expressed concern for his well-being.During his interaction with Dr. Kamboj’s family, Dr. Singh encouraged them to remain strong and assured full state support in this difficult time. He emphasized that safety of medical professionals remains a top priority for the Punjab government. As part of renewed efforts, district-level monitoring committees will be formed, and mapping of hospitals with nearby police stations is being implemented for quick emergency response.

“Anyone found misbehaving with healthcare workers will face strict legal action,” the minister added. As of now, no arrests have been made, but police sources said that significant leads have emerged from CCTV footage and phone records. Investigators are also examining whether the attack was linked to extortion threats, which have become a growing concern in the region amid rising gangster activity.

The attack has sparked outrage across Punjab’s medical fraternity and the entertainment industry, with many demanding swift action and stronger protections for doctors and public personalities.

Dr. Kamboj, a well-known cardiologist in Moga, is respected for his service to the local community. His daughter, actress Tania, has earned a strong fan base in Punjabi cinema, adding to the public attention and widespread condemnation of the attack. The case continues to unfold, as authorities race to apprehend the shooters and bring those responsible to justice.
