City Beautiful is likely to get its first woman senior superintendent of police (SSP) after Punjab governor and UT administrator VP Badnore recommended the name of Jagdale Nilambari Vijay for appointment to the post.
A 2008-batch Punjab IPS officer, Nilambari Vijay is likely to be appointed the Chandigarh SSP.
Badnore is learnt to have recommended her name to the Union Home Ministry. Her name was part of the panel of three officers received from the Punjab government last Friday.
UT administration received recommendations of Nilambari Vijay, S Bhoopati, a 2007 batch IPS officer, and Naveen Singla, a 2009 batch IPS officer, for the post.
While Nilambari Vijay is presently posted as Ropar SSP, Bhoopati is serving as Patiala SSP while Singla is the Bathinda SSP.
Punjab had sent a fresh panel after name of Inderbir Singh, former Sangrur SSP, was dropped from the panel after prima facie he was found guilty of extorting money from two farmers and allegedly threatening to implicate them in a murder case.
The UT administration had earlier rejected two panels sent during the SAD-BJP regime and requested the state government to send a fresh panel of officers. The Chandigarh SSP’s post has been lying vacant after Sukhchain Singh Gill, a 2003-batch IPS officer, was repatriated to Punjab in December last year. Eish Singhal is presently officiating as the SSP of Chandigarh.
