In this meeting, three major projects for PGIMER–Advanced Mother and Child Centre, Advanced Neurosciences Centre, and Satellite Centre of PGIMER Chandigarh at Una in HP–were discussed. Detailed presentations were made by the Deputy Director of PGI and concerned Faculty members before the Board. After a lot of deliberations, all the three projects were approved. The total amount of these three approved projects is Rs. 1475 crores.
The Advanced Mother and Child Centre (485 crores) is a 300-bedded Centre which would help in achieving a quantum jump in achieving obstetric and neonatal tertiary care. It will establish new facilities like HDU, ICU, fetal medicine unit, robotic surgery, NICU with level 4 services, human milk bank, advanced infertility services, and reproductive endocrinology. This State of the Art Advanced Centre would be the first of its kind in the Northern Region. The Centre would also enhance the training of health professionals by acting as an advanced simulation and skill training centre. It would also bring up world class Advanced research facilities. Importantly, the proposed Centre would make a substantial contribution towards reduction of maternal, prenatal and neonatal mortality in the Region.
The Advanced Neurosciences Centre (495.31 crores) is a 300-bedded Centre which would help in creating state of the art facilities to offer timely as well as the best treatment for neurological and Neurosciences disorders. It will provide increased bed strength, more number of OTs, ICUs and ventilators and affordable health care. This Centre would provide additional facilities like brain suite, mapping, invasive neurophysiological techniques and advanced imaging technology. The Centre would act as a training centre for Neuro specialists from across the country.
The Satellite Centre at Una in HP (495 crores), on the analogy of Satellite Centre at Sangrur in Punjab, is a 300-bedded State of the Art hospital aimed at reducing the referrals to PGI and providing quality healthcare facilities to the people of Himachal Pradesh. The Centre would provide specialised services in the departments of medicine, gynaecology, general surgery, paediatrics, ophthalmology, ENT, dental, radiology, dermatology, and many more departments. The Centre would help the society through improved survival, reduced disability, better rehabilitation, improved quality of life and affordable quality healthcare to the people of that region.
The approval of these projects would provide a quantum jump in quality of healthcare services, especially to the 10 crore people of the region.
After approval of the projects, JP Nadda, Health Minister, expressed happiness and satisfaction over the development. He re-iterated the resolve of the Government to provide health facilities and coverage to all people at affordable price at their doorsteps. He also urged the Government of Himachal Pradesh to provide land at the earliest so that work on the Satellite Centre at Una could also start immediately.
PGIMER was abuzz with excitement over the development. A senior faculty member said that PGI has got such an approval after 7 years. ” We hope that the work would start immediately”.
