Haryana Government is all set to implement Bar-code system for Bio medical waste so that proper watch can be kept over the waste. As per the guidelines of Central Pollution Control Board, Haryana state is auditing all those Health care facilities that generates Bio Medical Waste.
Future Course of Action
Haryana in their future course of action have decided to have an establishment of a Bar-code System for bags or containers containing bio-medical waste will be implemented by 29 March 2019 as per Central Pollution Control Board guidelines.
All the veterinary Hospitals, animal Houses, Pathological Laboratories, Blood Banks and Research Institutions will be INSPECTED and COMPLIED them as per Bio Medical Waste rules, 2016 upto 31 March 2019.
As per the official records there are 3412 Health Care facilities that generate bio medical waste whereas bedded healthcare facilities are 2410, Non Bedded healthcare facilities are 1039, total numbers of beds in healthcare facilities 48357 and Total Bio Medical Waste 11732 kg/Day generated in State.
There are 11 authorised common Bio medical waste treatment facilities(CBMWTFs) in the state and the total incinerator capacity of these CBMWTFs to treat bio medical waste is 39600kg/day. All the CBMWTFs are upgraded as per Ministry of Environment and Forest notification 2016 and provided Online Continuous Monitoring System on their incinerator.
All the 3393 Health Care Facilities made agreement with these CBWTFs for collection and disposal of their Bio Medical Waste. The Government of Haryana, Environment and Climate Change has constituted state level advisory committee (SLAC) and 1st meeting of SLAC has already been held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary to Govt. of Haryana, Health Department cum Chairman of SLAC on 16 Aug 2018.
