PGI signed MOU with ASCO

The situation of Cancer Patient and the attendant go worse when they get to know about Cancer in the body that too when doctors tell them about this after going through all essential tests. It even got worse when Patient waiting time is increased in months for the wait of the treatments and procedures. But, before ending up to any conclusion that PGIMER Doctors are over-pressurized or Residents are intentionally delaying someone’s treatment. Hold on!! It is not at all intentional, This is how the Treatment has to go.

Today, the PGIMER Radiotherapy department held a press conference, where specialists told media that they all are oncologists in their specific specialty. Doctors unveiled 10 main points for Patients to note down when they land in PGIMER with Cancer suspicion.

  1. DO NOT HURRY or PANIC, LET DOCTORS TO DIAGNOSE FIRST.
  2. FOR CANCER, DOCTOR HAS TO GO THROUGH TESTS AND THAT TAKES TIME, IT IS IMPORTANT TO RECHECK ALL THE TEST REPORTS THAT WAS CONDUCTED FROM PRIVATE TEST LABS AND THAT TAKES TIME.
  3. BIOPSY TEST REPORTS RESULTS TAKES ATLEAST A WEEK TO COME OUT, SO THERE IS NO POINT OF ASKING DOCTOR TO SPEED UP THE TREATMENT.
  4. IT IS DOCTOR’S JOB TO SEE WHAT PROCEDURE NEED TO BE DONE FIRST ON WHICH PATIENT, DO NOT GOOGLE AND TELL DOCTOR, WHAT HAS TO BE DONE.
  5. THERE ARE CERTAIN PROTOCOLS UNDER WHICH A CANCER PATIENT GETS TREATMENT AND FOR THAT IT TAKES ATLEAST A MONTH EVEN LESSER THAN THAT TO INITIATE ALL TREATMENT PROCEDURES ON A PATIENT SUFFERING CANCER.
  6. WITHOUT BIOPSY, NO DOCTOR CAN TELL IF CANCER IS THERE OR NOT.
  7. NO TIBETIAN OR ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE CAN HELP A CANCER PATIENT.
  8. RADIOTHERAPY, CHEMOTHERAPY, AND SURGERY ARE PART OF CANCER TREATMENT ONLY
  9. DO NOT JUST SIT AT HOME THINKING IN CASE YOU DOUBT YOU MAY HAVE CANCER, GET IT DIAGNOSED BY A DOCTOR.
  10. EVERY TUMOUR IN BODY IS NOT A CANCER.

It is also the first time when the American Society of Clinical Oncology collaborated with PGIMER and signed an MOU in OCT 2018. American Society of Clinical Oncology is the world-famous society for Cancer that got really impressed by PGI Radiotherapy Unit’s palliative services and also have disseminated the same model in other developing nations as an example to treat cancer patients says Dr Navneet Singh, Thoracic Onco- Surgeon. While taking on Breast Cancer Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Head of the Department of Surgery says that it is always to get yourself diagnosed first than just thinking and sitting at home.
