New Ministers Inducted into Punjab Cabinet. The Punjab government has welcomed four new ministers into its cabinet, including Barinder Kumar Goyal, Tarunpreet Singh Sondh, Hardeep Singh Mundian, and Dr. Ravjot Singh, as part of a major reshuffle. The Punjab Government further have shuffled the departments in ministers.
Barinder Kumar Goyal
A 65-year-old seasoned lawyer and three-time president of the Sunam Bar Association, Barinder Kumar Goyal has long been involved in politics. His first electoral bid came in 1992 from Lehragaga on a BJP ticket, where he finished second to former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal. Goyal joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2022 and won the Lehragaga seat by defeating five-time MLA Parminder Singh Dhindsa by over 26,000 votes. Before joining AAP, Goyal had formed the Lehra Vikas Manch, a platform that contested the Lehragaga Municipal Council elections in 2021.
Tarunpreet Singh Sondh
At 40, Tarunpreet Singh Sondh is a dedicated AAP worker and currently the party’s state vice-president. He achieved a landslide victory in the Khanna constituency, defeating the Shiromani Akali Dal’s (SAD) Jasdeep Kaur Yadu by more than 35,000 votes. Sondh’s rise in the party has now culminated in his induction into the cabinet, recognizing his consistent efforts for AAP.
Hardeep Singh Mundian
Hardeep Singh Mundian, 48, won his first election in the Sahnewal constituency, defeating Congress candidate Vikram Singh Bajwa by a margin of over 15,000 votes. Previously a member of the Lok Insaaf Party, Mundian joined AAP in 2021 and has since emerged as a key political figure in Ludhiana district. His addition to the cabinet highlights his growing influence and leadership within the party.
Dr. Ravjot Singh
Dr. Ravjot Singh, 47, is a medical doctor with an MD from PGIMER, Chandigarh, and runs a hospital in Hoshiarpur. His political journey began before 2014, and he contested his first Assembly election in 2017 from the Sham Chaurasi (reserved) seat. Though he narrowly lost to Congress candidate Pawan Adia by 3,815 votes, he triumphed in 2022, winning the seat with a margin of over 21,000 votes. Known for his integrity and public service, particularly in healthcare, Dr. Ravjot has regularly organized medical camps and contributed to healthcare initiatives in his constituency. His cabinet appointment is seen as a reward for his dedication to improving public health infrastructure.
Mohinder Bhagat
Mohinder Bhagat, 66, secured a significant victory in the Jalandhar West by-election, defeating BJP candidate Sheetal Angural by a margin of over 37,000 votes. Bhagat is the son of veteran BJP leader and former minister Chunni Lal Bhagat. His inclusion in the cabinet fulfills Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s promise to bring enhanced civic amenities, education, and healthcare to the Jalandhar West constituency, where Mann had campaigned extensively for him.
