More laurels for PGIMER Dr. Surinder Rana from Gastroenterology & Dr. Suresh Kumar from Paediatrics awarded with the distinct honour of ICMR Awards

PGI doctors bagged ICMR Award 2019. PGI Doctors have always been pride for the country as they are known for their dedication and enthusiasm for medical science and humankind. Here is one more feather in PGIMER’s Chandigarh Cap as two eminent doctors of their respective fields bagged ICMR award 2019.

Dr. Surinder Rana from the Department of Gastroenterology and Dr. Suresh Kumar from the Department of Paediatrics has been awarded the distinct honour of ICMR awards 2019.

Dr. Surinder Rana, Professor, Department of Gastroenterology, PGIMER has been awarded the ICMR Amrut Mody Unichem Prize 2019 for his significant contributions in the management of pancreatic diseases including acute and chronic pancreatitis. He has been studying the role of therapeutic endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound in pancreatic diseases for the last 15 years and has developed various innovative minimally invasive non-surgical methods for treating various pancreatic diseases.

Dr. Rana has more than 400 publications in peer-reviewed National and International Journals. He has also received various awards and orations including the Young Clinician Award 2005 by the World Gastroenterology Organization, Don Wilson (Crystal) Award 2006 by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Shakuntala Amir Chand Award 2006by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Young Scientist Medal 2010 by Indian National Science Academy and NASI- Scopus Elsevier Young Scientist Award2012 for his dedicated work in the field of pancreatology.

In addition to the above accomplishments, Dr. Rana has to his credit fellowship of  American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI), and Association of Interventional GI Endoscopy of India (AIGE).

Dr Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Division of Pediatric Critical Care, Department of Pediatrics, Advanced Pediatrics Centre, PGIMER has been awarded the ICMR-Dr H B Dingley Memorial Award 2019 for his exceptional contribution on the role of probiotics in critically ill children with sepsis.

Dr Kumar has 130 publications in peer reviewed national and international journals. He also received various awards including Major General Amir Chand Gold Medal for best published research for the year of 2012, PGIMER, Chandigarh; Best Poster Award at 6th SG-ANZICS Asia Pacific Intensive Care Forum 2019, Singapore; and Best Poster Award at Annual Scientific Meeting on Intensive Care (ASMIC) and 3rd Asian Pediatric Intensive Care Congress (APICC) 2019, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Besides, Dr Kumar is fellow of American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and Fellow of International Medical Sciences Academy (FIMSA).
