In a shocking incident, Kanchan Kumari, a well-known social media influencer popular by the name Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, was found dead under mysterious circumstances late Wednesday night in a parked car near Adesh University, located at Bhucho Kalan on the Bathinda–Chandigarh highway.
The 30-something influencer, originally from Ludhiana, had a significant online following, with over 3.83 lakh followers on Instagram. She was known for her bold and comedic content on social media.
According to preliminary findings, the case is being treated as a suspected murder. Bathinda SP (City) Narinder Singh confirmed that a foul smell emanating from a parked vehicle had drawn the attention of local residents, prompting them to alert the police. Upon arrival, the police found Kanchan’s body inside the car.
“Prima facie, it appears that someone abandoned the car after committing the crime,” SP Narinder Singh said, adding, “The vehicle seems to have been bearing fake number plates. We are verifying its registration with transport authorities. The cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem.”
Police teams are now examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the suspects or track the car’s movement prior to it being abandoned. The vehicle has been seized for forensic analysis.
This isn’t the first time Kanchan had found herself under threat. In October last year, she had allegedly received a warning from Canada-based designated terrorist Arsh Dalla, who had reportedly asked her to stop uploading “inappropriate” content.
Investigators are not ruling out any angles, including the possibility that the threat and the murder may be linked. Cyber and intelligence wings have also been roped in to assist the local police in the investigation.
More details are awaited as the investigation continues.
