Village sharing Pakistan border go standstill with Rain aftereffects. This is village Simbal Sakol in Pathankot District near Bamiyal. The entire village’s livelihood comes to a complete standstill whenever it rains, even on the Pakistani side. What could be more distressing is that even the lightest rain puts the whole village in a flood-like situation for at least five days because there is no drainage system installed there.
While the meteorological department has issued a heavy rain alert, the entire area of Simbal-Sakol village, located on the zero line of the India-Pakistan border, is in danger. Even light rain causes the whole village to flood, with water not receding from homes for up to five days, creating significant hardships for the residents.
Simbal Sakol’s Villager cleaning mud blanketed street after the rain
The water enters India from the Pakistan border, which is right next to Simbal-Sakol village. Due to inadequate drainage, the water remains in the village for several hours, causing damage to dozens of houses. The villagers reported that after the rain last night, water flowed from beyond the fencing on the India-Pakistan border into their homes and remained stagnant for a few hours. As a result, villagers had to shift their belongings to higher ground areas.
Sukhpal Singh from Simbal-Sakol mentioned that after the water drains out, the entire house and streets are blanketed in mud. Rain never brings us joy because cleaning this mud takes the entire village an entire day.
Singh added that this situation persists even though the Punjab Government has built a wide road in the village. The elevated road prevents the water from draining out of the village, causing it to accumulate and adding to the residents’ woes. Singh said that they have requested officials to visit the village, see the drainage problem, and sort it out at the earliest.
